Gabby comes home!

Gabby is a Maremma Sheepdog who is one of three guardians taking care of our alpacas. She just turned two years old and as such, her hips were rated by OFA as “good.” She is currently being bred to a male, also registered Maremma, whose hips have been rated as “excellent.” Their pups will be gorgeous, intelligent and the right choice to guard your herd!

News from the Hollow! Summer 2012

Gabby has just come home from her rendezvous with Shrek!  She is being greeted by Carlie through the barn gate.

Shrek, is an excellent guardian of alpacas. He is one of Laura and Mark Voss’ Maremma excellent sires. He serviced our Gabby for a litter of pups due in early to mid August. He comes from a wonderful genetic line as does Gabby! Their pups will be exceptional!

Fall 2010

Black Diamond greets a Yarn School Student.

We have had a wonderful beginning to the fall. A great crowd came to meet the alpacas, visit with us, and shop at The Last Stall for the Alpaca Farm Day at the beginning of October. We had beautiful weather and it was great to have several other businesses join us here at the farm to share their talents.

At the end of September, we had another visit from Yarn School participants. They came out to enjoy lunch in the barn and meet the source of some of the fiber in their goodie bags. It’s fun to know the name and have a picture of the animal whose fiber you are spinning!

We’re expecting three new babies. Liana, Aurora and Fox should give birth in October or November. We look forward to the new additions to the herd. It’s exciting to think that El Dorado will no longer be a junior herdsire once Foxy’s cria hits the ground!

It’s hard to believe how quickly these crias grow. The three girls born last spring area already so big. Annie, Emma and Di are already out on their own. They love entertaining visitors, so let us know when you’ would like to come by and see them!

We are looking forward to springtime weather and springtime births in the coming months. It is an exciting time!

January 2010

It has been a cold month and a lot of work around the farm! The alpacas have been very thankful for their warm fiber during our exceptionally cold winter! They encourage you to warm up yourself with some of their fiber, in our gloves, socks, or fabulous yarn or roving!

December 2009

What a great Christmas season we have had! The beautiful snow has made for quite a lovely background for the alpacas. We have welcomed many visitors here to the farm. Many have come to see the alpacas and shop at The Last Stall, our new farm store.

November 2009

We are giving thanks this November.

We have begun breeding some of our young girls for next fall’s crias. Sympony and Marguerit are bred to Magic and Autumn is bred to Redstone.

As the Christmas season approaches, our store is open from 9am – 1pm on Saturdays to meet all of your gift giving needs. If you need Christmas cards, consider felting some original designs to send to your family and friends. Warm socks, gloves and scarves make great presents for all in this cold weather!

October 2009

What an exciting time of year! October has brought us visitors from across the United States. This month began with The Harveyville Project’s Yarn School participants visiting our farm to meet the alpacas, tour the farm, and visit The Last Stall. We enjoyed having the opportunity to visit with so many people who work with fiber on a regular basis.

In the middle of the month, we hosted a Farm Day for people to come out and learn about the alpacas. It was a cold and blustery day, but we still had a great crowd come out and tour the farm.

Foxy Lady became a mother for the first time in October. We’re already impressed with this beautiful little boy!

We are ending the month by attending the Mid-America Alpaca Show (MAAS). We can’t wait to show off our little champions!
